Gardens of the God

Okay, so it's really "Garden of the Gods," but that just sounds a little too heathenish. After weeks of snow on the ground and pregnancy low energy levels, I needed to escape. So we took a little trip to Colorado Springs with a detour to visit a yarn shop in the Black Forest. We lunched at Cracker Barrel, toured the beautiful rock formations in the late afternoon sun, and had dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Adam's Mountain Cafe, in Manitou Springs. A very nice outing on a beautiful day.

Unfortunately, my photography skills are very limited, and I couldn't really capture the day. Here are some photos anyhow.

I was so disappointed this one came out blurry.

Turns out Felicity is quite the little trailblazer. Guess I shouldn't be surprised. She regarded the trails as optional, tried to take off into the trees several times, and screamed loudly when we put her in the stroller. Why is it that the more fun an outing is, the worse kids behave? Anyhow, we will have to take little wilderness girl on more hikes once new baby arrives and it warms up.

I enjoyed watching David chase Felicity around.

Here is what we really see most of the time.

Mad Hatter

Felicity love hats, and David couldn't resist snapping a few photos of her playing with one.

This one just makes me laugh.

(Yes, that is the "corral" that has so far saved Mommy's sanity.)

Pretty Baby

Today, we did some packing away of toys and searching out of toys from under the couch. There the mirror and brush were found after some time of being absent. Felicity was delighted to see them again and put them to use.

Mommy's Childhood Dress

My grandmother made me this dress when I was about Felicity's age. The story goes that she saw a similar dress at a shop and was shocked at the high price tag. So she decided to sew the dress herself. By the time she bought all the materials, it cost her about 30 dollars (1980), which was more than the dress at the shop! Anyhow, my mother saved the dress and so Felicity got to wear it for Christmas Eve.

Deer Refuge

Herds of deer are quite the common sight this winter. The hunters who visit us all marvel at the large bucks.

Ornament Thief

Felicity keeps nabbing one particular ornament off the tree. It is a little heart-shaped one with buttons and ribbons and such glued to it, made by my grandmother. Doesn't her mischievous look just say it all?

Christmas Tree Arrives

We are late getting the tree up this year, but we have lots of good excuses. We bought the tree this morning at a lot that selectively harvests trees from state land in such a way as to benefit the forest. We decorated it while Felicity napped, and she was delighted by it upon awakening.
