Happy Birthday, Felicity!

Felicity’s first birthday was today. We took her to lunch at the Cracker Barrel in Colorado Springs. She had her first menu item, dry cheerios. Then she had a little nap while we headed over to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. Felicity wasn’t sure what to think of the giraffes. She yelled at them when they tried to eat crackers from her hand. I suspect that was because she wanted to eat the crackers herself! She seemed to enjoy touring the zoo, but also seemed a little overwhelmed by all the sights. We got to see all the new areas that were under construction the last time we were there. Some highlights were seeing a bear swim in his pool, watching a newborn orangutan, and feeding the birds. We headed over for dinner to Adam’s Mountain Cafe, one of our favorite restaurants, where Christie had the shrimp and David the harvest crepes. We picked up some Colorado custard for dessert, and Felicity couldn’t get enough. We were all very tired by the end of the trip.

Happy First Year, Felicity!

Here is Felicity at one year. She can sit on the horse pretty well on her own now. She can also throw him over her shoulder.

Easter and Felicity's Family Birthday Party

We went to the Easter Service at church then headed home to get ready to host Easter dinner and a little birthday celebration for Felicity with David's family.

Felicity was intrigued by her first Easter basket. She loved the little ducks.

Felicity enjoyed opening her presents. Here she is reading a book the way that Grandpa Russell taught her.

The boys were so very jealous of her beautiful headband. Daddy wanted to show everyone just how much Felicity and he look alike.

More presents!

Mmmm, so yummy! Felicity is such a little lady she didn't even make a mess.

CSM Geology Museum, Take 1

Went on a fieldtrip to the Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum with my friend and her three kids. We used to work at the museum together while we were in school and were later roomates. The museum has since gotten a bigger space in a new building. When we arrived at the school, the museum was closed. I should have known. When I called the day before the girl who answered the phone responded, “Uh, yeah” when asked if it would be open.

So we headed up to the bookstore and took some pictures by the old location of the museum.

Then I stopped by the physics department and ran into one of the lab advisors from my student days coming out the door. He said he had one of my assignments for me and handed me my field session notebook from 2000! That was surprising. The place looked almost exactly the same, even the same lab results and posters were hanging on the wall.

Then we headed down to the Heritage Park at Clear Creek and had lunch. Felicity and I peeked in the garden and the chicken coop. There was rhubarb, spinach, and kale coming up.

Then we headed home.
